What is confined space rescue equipment?
Confined space rescue equipment is the equipment and gear used for rescue people trapped in confined spaces. Some confined space equipment includes the line of communication equipment from Con-Space, based in Vancouver, BC. The use of this equipment allows the confined space rescue team to successfully communicate with the rest of the team who may not be in the confined space themselves but are assisting the team as they traverse the dangerous environment.
Another piece of confined space equipment includes the line from Searchcam Systems. This confined space equipment gives the users the ability to search in areas where the personnel couldn’t otherwise fit. With Searchcam confined space rescue equipment it is possible for the confined space team to drill a small hole and maneuver the camera so it will fit through the hole and be able to see passed the debris.
Delsar equipment is an additional important piece of confined space rescue equipment. With delsar equipment it is possible for the confined space team to place their probes on top of a debris pile and hear sounds, think tapping or banging, that may otherwise be unheard by the rescue team. This piece of confined space rescue equipment allows the rescue team to successfully triangulate the position of the person or persons who need assistance.
Other important piece of confined space rescue equipment is the rescue harness. Confined space rescue teams where harnesses for a variety of reasons, to be able to tie off if they need to rappel, tying themselves to a victim for assistance, or to allow them to carry additional confined space rescue equipment. Some confined space rescue harnesses that we carry are manufactured by Yates Gear and CMC Rescue. Both manufacturers have their advantages for the user and generally the choice of confined space rescue harness falls on the user to decide which features they favor between the two.
Probably one of the most important pieces of confined space rescue equipment is that of rope. Rope allows the confined space rescue team to tie off for rappelling, to tie to victims for rescue, to tie to equipment for pulling or safety, and an astronomical list of additional uses. Many people, when they hear about confined space rescue rope, don’t realize that this rope comes in a variety of styles, and uses. Some of the major differences are what the rope is made of, the majority of rescue rope is made of a nylon material. Another difference is how “stretchy” or dynamic the rope is. A rope that stretches is known as dynamic and a rope that is not is known as static, since it essentially does not move. These ropes come in a variety of diameters, lengths, and colors. Many confined space rescue teams may choose to standardize their ropes and purchase ropes in different colors to signify their use, length, diameter, or many other reasons.
